Evaluation Question 1: in what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Evaluation Question 1: in what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Our film has also challenged the conventions of having guns and explosions in a thriller film mainly because we wanted the film to be more mysterious and less Cliché but we have tried to use violence for example the punch scene with the main protagonist and one of the three blockers.
In early idea brainstorming, we wanted a scene where a blocker is attacking the protagonist with nunchuks and a small shot of the protagonist hold a gun.

In Editting

In editing we have conformed to the conventions of a thriller film as we have used quick editing techniques we have also used dark lighting where possible. We have also used many of the shots that are usually present in a thriller film.

In Character

Our Film has challenged many different stereotypes within Action/Thriller. The main antagonist in our film is a female which isn’t normally seen in action/thriller films as most antagonists are strong males who is against everything the protagonist believes in. She also acts like a damsel in distress which also challenges the stereotype Female characters in thriller films are usually used as prizes in the propp narrative theory; they usually cannot fight, need the main protagonist to save them and usually a love interest between them. An Example of a film that also challenges this is Run Lola Run.

Another form we challenged was ethnicity between the mentor and the protagonist The mentor in our film is of Muslim ethnicity. Much like in the film Die Hard where the mentor cop is black and the main protagonist is white. Usually the mentor is an older family member or a close friend and they are both white especially in Hollywood films.

The main protagonist in thrillers are usually a built up man who has been through vigorous training and traumatic experiences, whereas in our film the main protagonist is a just an average Joe. This makes it more relatable to our audience and it doesn’t look too cliché.
Our film did stick with the amount of henchmen/’Bad Guys’ that are usually in Action/Thriller films however much like the protagonist they are average looking teenagers.
