Ideology is a system of beliefs and Idea that is in all media texts. They are what people believe in.
Dominant Ideologies are the main beliefs portrayed and promoted in the media. They usually control the what people think. They sometimes match common stereotypes. For example Men are strong and powerful and woman are Illogical and emotional.
Binary Oppositions A binary opposition is a pair of opposites (Positives and Negatives) to organize human thoughts, beliefs and culture. A side of the opposition are sometimes favoured and therefor considered Domanate.

Stereotypes Stereotypes are characters in a media text who are types rather complex people, they usually definded by there role and won't change at all. These can be insulting ways to describe people or a type of person can are also sexist. Some examples of stereotypes are teenage boys are 'Chavs' or Blonde woman are 'Dumb Blondes'

Examples of media texts that contain Stereotypes are Newspapers, TV and in Advertising.
In the 1950's and 60's when men dominated advertising stereotypical impressions of women as inferior or subservient were not only commonplace but usual. It was normal to show women as housekeepers, largely because most were.
Representation relates to the representation of reality in the media. It is very important to show what people are represented in the media and who and what get lefts out.
Stuart Hall, cultural theorist mentioned that
"The Media the power to represent the world in certain ways. And because there are so many diffrent and confliction way in which meaning about the world can be construction, it matters profoundly what and who get left out, and how things, people events and relationship are represented."
A very good example of reprsentation is this film by Leni Riefenstahl It shows Hilter in a positive way as a powerful and good leader.
In the Propp structure, There are seven main character types
Hero (Protagonist)
The central Protagonist of the narrative who drives it forward and has some kind of quest or mission. Traditionally Male but can be Female
Villain (Antagonist)
Seeks Riches and power, trys to stop the Hero to succeed in their Quest/Mission and is the biggest threat. often wants the
Helper
Accompanies the hero for some or most of the quest and can sometimes help, but cannot by themselves complete the Quest
Blocker
Tries to prevent the hero completing at least part of the quest.
Dispatcher
Sends the hero on a journey/quest.
Prize (Heroine)
Acts as a reward for the hero succeeding in the quest. in older, more stereotypical narratives the heroine is a passive princess and female.
Mentor
Gives the hero important information or equipment to help him/her in the quest.

False Protagonist In some films the Antagonist can act like a Protagonist for there own reasons, Here is a example of this from the movie Incredibles, The Main Antagonist Syndrome is acting like a super hero
They are two types of narrative structure, Propp and Todorov. Propp and Todorov are the structures that go though the film that are the Beginning, Middle and Ending.
